There are a variety of important steps you need to take in order to start your own mail order business. The number of mail order businesses has skyrocketed as the internet has become more popular, with more and more of them popping up each year.  With such popularity has come confidence, as people are more willing to purchase items online to have delivered through the mail.  Read below for tips on how to start a mail order business.

Register Your Business

This will include thinking of a name for your company.  Registering your business will allow you to set up a business bank account.  Contact your local court house for instructions on setting up a business, which will consist primary of filling out paperwork.  You may also want to register your company with the Better Business Bureau.

Set up A Merchant Account

This is how customers will pay you for products.  PayPal is the most popular merchant account and allows customers to pay for products via their system so that the customers are willing to enter their credit card information.  After setting up a merchant account, determine which suppliers you will use to obtain your products.  Look for wholesale or drop shipping companies that can offer you discounted rates in exchange for buying products in bulk.  Buying wholesale will allow you to garner the largest profits, while drop shipping is the easiest.  With drop shipping, you never really have to touch the products, as they are stored, packaged and shipped at another location.

Establish A Website

This should be easy to navigate and allow users to quickly purchase products.  Run through the buying process yourself to make sure it is as simple as possible.  Lastly, market your company wherever possible.  Give away free samples, advertise on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, and search for pay ads if you have the budget.
