Building a Free Website for Your Business

Danny Wong, The Writers Network

There are lots of tools and techniques for building a free website for your business, many of which make it easy to create a website that can sell products, services and generate revenue. Creating a website doesn't have to be one of the hardest aspects of starting up your business. You can easily build a free website in a matter of days, maybe even hours, with little or no programming and design skills. Here are things to know about building a free website for your business.

Using Wordpress

Many businesses start their website off on a Wordpress platform. This usually works best if you're looking to build a content based business since Wordpress helps to create free blogs, but even consumer products and service based businesses have used, and continue to use, Wordpress as a platform for their free websites which make money and income for them. Wordpress is great because you have many great add ons that you can use to customize your website's experience and lots of design templates to help you in creating a website with an interesting look and feel.

Leveraging Free Platforms

There are also a lot of other free platforms where you can build your own website with free hosting and easy content management. You can also use other free software for easy manipulation of your site without learning much or any coding or design. It does help though if you learn a bit of coding and Photoshop to help build something that not just works, but works exceptionally well for the investment you put into it, but again, it's not necessary that you have or learn any coding or design skills. With some software and website management platforms, you can manage your website as easily as using the program Paint. You can click and drag images, create buttons, add text, hyperlinks, add and remove graphics, even resize images and text. Building a free website for your business might even be easier than searching for quality programmers that might not understand your vision for the website you'd like, which can be both costly and a headache. When you can do it yourself, you don't have to go through the trouble of trying to communicate your needs to a third party that can't fully appreciate what you're looking for.

Other Considerations

While you can build a decent free website without much more than a bit of time investment, it will be useful to consider investing in things like strong servers for optimal performance when lots of users are on the site, and good domain names to make your business recognizable, easily searchable and easy to remember. Some of the better domains can't just be purchased for a few dollars on GoDaddy, since many of the better domain names are usually owned by individuals or companies that invest in quality domain names and sell them at a much higher price. Hiring a professional programmer, or even a student, for small projects might be worthwhile too to improve your website's performance and fix bugs. Working with a professional graphics designer is also useful especially if you want a look and feel to your site that other sites won't have which will add a lot of credibility to your business.
