How to Become a Certified Nursing Assistant

Get your G.E.D. or Diploma

The first step to becoming a CNA is to get either your high school diploma or a G.E.D. Without one of these certificates, you will be unable to enroll in a high education program. Fortunately, even if you failed to graduate high school, you can still get a G.E.D. rather easily. Taking steps towards receiving either of these certificates should be a priority if you have not yet done so.

Enroll in a CNA Program

Next, you should enroll in a certified nursing assistant program. CNA courses are offered at a variety of different institutions, including adult education programs and community colleges. In general, courses to become a CNA last anywhere between 6 and 12 weeks, and can be completed even sooner at some institutions. Before enrolling in a program, you should check into other programs in the area in order to ensure that you’re getting the most for your money.

Apply for a Job

CNAs are in high demand, and finding a job is often easier than it may seem. Apply at a variety of local institutions, including nursing homes, hospitals and doctors’ offices. The more you put yourself out there, the better your chance of finding a job quickly and effectively.
