Average Salaries at Kmart

Jonathan Bales, The Writers Network

With over 5,000 employees and over $15 billion (yes, billion) in annual revenue, Kmart is a huge employer in the United States.  Although the company has been overtaken by WalMart and Target as the premier all-purpose stores, Kmart still provides an enormous amount of jobs.  One of the great aspects of working at Kmart is there are job opportunities for all experience levels.  Some Kmart employees are of the entry-level variety, while supervisors and managers are often quite experienced and receive competitive salaries.  As a well-established company with such incredible versatility, Kmart can be a tremendous place to work.  Read on for more information on Kmart jobs and salaries.

Cashier: Up to $9/hour

Most Kmart salaries are paid hourly instead of yearly.  A cashier is the lowest position in the company, and it is almost always reserved for entry-level workers.  Most people who come to Kmart start in this position, and although the pay is not great, it can lead to bigger opportunities.  The room for growth is what makes Kmart an attractive company for which to work.

Sales Associate: Up to $10/hour

The next step up from a cashier is a sales associate.  In addition to this hourly wage, associates can sometimes earn commissions on sales.  These commissions are not stupendous, but they can be enough to motivate those in sales to work as hard as possible.  Incredible salesmen can sometimes double their hourly wage, leading to quite a nice chunk of money for a potential entry-level position.

Assistant Store Manager: $34,000-$57,000 ($43,276 Average)

Kmart store managers are compensated quite nicely for their work.  The range in yearly salary depends on experience and location.  A senior manager in New York City will obviously make more than a new manager in the Midwest, for example.  Nonetheless, those who start in entry-level positions at Kmart and display excellent work can rise to this level.

Store Manager: $52,000-$120,000 ($72,479 Average)

Depending on experience, Kmart managers can make upwards of a six-figure yearly salary.  On top of this, managers routinely earn up to $10,000 in bonuses per year.  These numbers put Kmart right in line with competitors like WalMart.

Pharmacist: $105,000-$128,000 ($113,382 Average)

Many people think of the entry level positions when they imagine working at KMart, but many of the stores have pharmacies that employ those with advanced degrees.  Like pharmacists at any company, those working at Kmart are compensated very well.  At an average salary well into six figures, pharmacists are eager to try to obtain a job at Kmart.

Benefits

As discussed above, most of the Kmart jobs that pay annually also come with bonuses, many of which are substantial.  On top of the extra cash, salaried employees receive healthcare plans that are very attractive.

Industry Comparisons

Kmart is right in line with its competitors in terms of compensation packages.  Entry-level positions do not earn a significant amount of money, but they have the opportunity to lead to salaried positions, such as Store Manager, which can pay quite nicely.
