Great Tips for Saving Money

Sam Feeder, The Writers Network

There are so many great tips for saving money out there, but it comes down to actually making the effort to do it and being a little creative. By getting into the habit of doing these things, you will accrue a little extra money over time and see a real difference in a few months, allowing you more freedom and less worry about not being able to pay your bills, buy the things you want or generally live the way you prefer to live. Check out a few of these great tips for saving money listed below.

Switch Banks

Paying fees to banks for no apparent reason? Or always having to pay needless fees when you don't draw cash from one of their specific cash machines? Switch banks to one that doesn't charge you these fees and will help you save the money that is rightfully yours (and they are allowed to use to do business with). While this won't save you a huge amount of money, it will help you build your new money-saving mentality going forward in the future.

Sign Up For Customer Rewards Deals

Get a card for the grocery store you always go to, or the pharmacy you frequent. Become a member of a coupon club so that you have free access to all the deals which are announced daily from various companies selling products you need. The extra two to three dollars you may save per purchase may not seem like much but it will really add up over time, padding your bank account all the more.

Don't Buy Drinks With Meals

Drink water instead of soda, tea, coffee or other drinks that you might get with a meal. Restaurants and convenience stores over charge for these drinks, by pricing them at two to three dollars apiece. Buying alcohol at a restaurant or bar is even worse, as they will charge you five dollars or more in most cases, which is basically the cost of a cheap meal. Regularly drinking water is actually much healthier for you as well, reducing the amount of sugar or caffeine you ingest and cleaning out your system. So you're basically killing two birds with one stone by saving money and making yourself healthier.

Make Your Own Food

Buying food at the grocery store and preparing it yourself will save you a ton of money very quickly. Each meal you eat out at a restaurant, with the exception of eating terribly unhealthy fast food, will cost you at least six dollars and on up. Eat two to three of these meals a day all week and you're spending hundreds of dollars on eating. Spend that same amount of money at the grocery store and you will have food in your fridge for weeks on end. Plus you won't have to drive to the restaurant, saving you even more money.

Walk or Bike, Don't Drive

With rising gas prices, this is a hidden cost for many people that quickly sinks their budget. So every chance you get to walk or bike to a place you are going, do it. Much like drinking water on a regular basis, it will make you healthier while it puts more money in your pocket.
